History & Information from Family Estate
Over the last two months we have been preparing my grandparent's prior home to put on the market. Over many years this home has been the centerpiece of our family farm and the hub of an enormous number of gatherings of family and friends, starting with my parent's wedding reception in 1952. Many of you have been a part of those events. A mid-century home largely in its original design with pegged oak floors throughout, more than 14 pocket doors and 20 closets, this 5 bedroom home was featured in Chicago's architectural magazines as a model of the times. A two-car attached garage and a large outbuilding with 4 car stalls provides ample space for vehicles, workshop and storage. If 5 bedrooms is too big, the second wing of the house, which include 3 rooms, a full bath and private entrance, easily converts to a separate closed-off space for an apartment, art studio or office suite. Set back almost 100 yards from Grand Avenue as you enter Lindenhurst from the east, the almost 3-acre parcel backs to the Lake County Forest Preserve and is surrounded by mature trees, including a grand old oak, other vegetation and privacy. A short walk across the street is an access point to the Millennial Trail and the Fourth Lake Overlook of the Lake County Forest Preserve that includes 30 miles of continuous trails across the county you can explore on foot or bike through woods, meadows and wetlands. All of this nature and quiet and yet within a 3-5 mile radius you have access to all of the stores, dining, health clubs, health care and other services for a convenient lifestyle. Five to ten minutes away are train stations that deliver you to O'hare Airport in about 45 minutes or to downtown Chicago where you can enjoy an evening on the town or even commute for work. Milwaukee, and its airport, is an easy 45-60 min. away as is the lovely town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Being in the center of Lake County, water sport opportunities are available in easy reach as are the shores of Lake Michigan just about 20 minutes up the road.
This one-of-a-kind house is older and doesn't have some of the modern updates some people may eventually want to incorporate, but it is fully prepared to be enjoyed and lived-in immediately.
